Class Structure and Attendance
Children who are going to primary school the following year usually attend for 2 days per week. The State Government are working towards all 4 year olds receiving 2 days a week at preschool and are offering some funding to assist with this.
Some of our 3 year olds attend for 1 day per week. This is ideal if they have never really been apart from parents before. The year prior to starting Kindergarten they will then attend 2 days per week.
We have a lot of 3 year olds who attend 2 days per week; mainly children with older siblings or children needing more than one day.
At Maitland Community Preschool we do not recommend that children going to primary school next year only attend preschool for one day per week. While we understand that for many parents this needs to be a financial decision, it is not one that we would recommend if at all possible.
Where possible we try to group children together who will go to the same school when they commence Kindergarten (especially in their final year of preschool). This assists with the transition from preschool to Kindergarten as it is more comforting for the child if they can see some friends from preschool or familiar faces in those early days of Kindergarten.
Maitland Community Preschool is licensed to operate with 40 children per day. Children must be aged 3 years minimum to attend.
Children with additional needs are welcomed at Maitland Community Preschool. Enrolment will be subject to a variety of factors, e.g. children already attending, group composition, number of children in group with additional needs and available support. Allocation of places is at the discretion of the Director.
Terminating a Child’s Place
If your child is going to finish up at preschool at any time during the year, two weeks term notice in writing must be given to the Director or Administration Officer to ensure your deposit refund. |
